Finance News / Romer says White House departure long planned (AP)

WASHINGTON – The departing head of President Barack Obama%27s Council of Economic Advisers says she is quitting solely for family reasons and that the economic team works well even with its set of "strong personalities."
Christina Romer announced Thursday she is resigning her position effective Sept. 3 to return to the University of California, Berkeley, as an economic professor.
Romer told The Associated Press on Friday: "It was by far the best thing for the family."
She said she had long considered returning to California about this time and that she wants her 14-year-old son to spend his high school years in one place. Romer is the second top-level economic aide to leave this summer, joining White House budget chief Peter Orszag.
